Program Details
Throughout the Prairies, a wide range of conservation organizations are leading their own programs and initiatives, each designed with distinct environmental priorities and sustainability objectives.
Program Overviews
At Collective Impact, we are creating relationships and fostering the future of sustainability. Here are some of the programs that are available from conservation organizations across the prairies.
1. Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW)
Saskatchewan Watersheds Environmental Agriculture Program focuses on improving nitrogen management, increasing the adoption of cover cropping and expanding the adoption of rotational grazing. SAW also has a number of other programs focused on protecting species at risk, watersheds and reestablishing trees and shelterbelts.
2. Manitoba Association of Watersheds (MAW)
Growing Outcomes in Watersheds (GROW)
Is a made-in-Manitoba program that supports conservation projects on agricultural lands. GROW funds project establishment costs and can provide annual payments for projects that help improve or maintain watershed health. MAW also has a number of other conservation
Prairie Watersheds Climate Program (PWCP)
The PWCP provides up to $40 million in financial support, through On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF), to producers in Manitoba and Saskatchewan to accelerate their adoption and implementation of on-farm beneficial management practices (BMPs) to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, support production efficiency, sustainability and resiliency on their farm operations.
Living Lab - Manitoba (LLMB)
The Living Laboratories Initiative aims to advance collaborative agricultural science and help address some of Canada’s most pressing environmental issues. The Initiative is a network of Living Labs across the country where farmers, researchers and various partners work hand in hand on farms developing novel tools and techniques that are tailored to local environments and needs.
Lake Winnipeg Basin Program (LWBP)
The goal of the LWBP is to tackle the most pressing challenges affecting the health of Lake Winnipeg by taking action to reduce phosphorus and nitrogen loading to Lake Winnipeg, strengthening collaboration throughout the basin, and engaging with Indigenous Peoples on freshwater issues.
3. Sask Soil
Farm Resilience Mentorship Program - FaRM is a free learning hub offering online resources, access to experienced farmer mentors, and a network of farmers in your region and across Canada to help you adopt practices that reduce emissions and build soil resilience.
4. ALUS
Growing Roots is a regenerative agriculture program focused on soil health launched in 2022 by ALUS with support from General Mills. With this program, ALUS continues to experiment with on-field project offerings, exploring how modified farming practices can produce ecosystem services and enhance biodiversity on agricultural lands and beyond.
ALUS also has the Trees on Farms program, as well as other Partnership Advisory Committee programs.
5. Ducks Unlimited
Ducks Unlimited offers a wide range of programs across the Prairies, including (but not limited to) marginal acres conversion, wetland restoration, winter cereals, grazing clubs, and forage and beef initiatives.
