At Collective Impact, our mission is to help farmers navigate the evolving world of carbon markets and sustainability. Derek Squair, co-founder of Collective Impact, brings over 20 years of leadership experience in agriculture, grain marketing, and carbon offset programs.
Derek’s agricultural interest began in Turtleford, SK, where he and his family are strongly integrated into the farming community. Over the years, he has focused his career on helping farmers maximize their opportunities, through specialized grain markets, sustainability programs, and carbon offset initiatives.
Before Collective Impact, Derek lead several grain and sustainability programs :
- Exceed Grain Marketing – As President, Derek worked directly with farmers to develop high-value grain markets, ensuring they received the best returns for their crops.
- Providence Grain – As Vice President of Merchandising & Operations, he helped expand grain-handling and trade operations across Canada through his expertise in new business development and marketing strategy.
- Agri-Trend Marketing – As a co-founder in 2005, Derek grew the company to a team of 27 experts, working with farmers across Canada and the U.S. to improve grain marketing strategies. Agri-Trend was later acquired by Trimble in 2015.
- Trimble Ag – Derek lead the sustainable agriculture team, developing and implementing carbon programs for producers in Canada, and connecting producers to multinational agri-food supply chain buyers. Derek has been involved in Alberta’s CO2 Offset market, working to integrate farmers into sustainability programs and connect them with buyers in multinational agri-food supply chains.
At Collective Impact, Derek works closely with industry partners, agronomists, and multinational buyers to create real opportunities for farmers in the carbon offset and inset credit markets.
Outside of his work, Derek is passionate about agriculture, rural communities, hockey, and family.
Derek’s leadership at Collective Impact continues to drive innovation, ensuring that farmers have the tools they need to succeed on their farm for generations.
